Commonwealth Cultura Mela 2021 & Rakshabandhan on 22nd August 2021 at Canal Basin, St Nicholas St, Coventry CV1 4LY

We were proud to organise “Commonwealth Cultural Mela 2021& Rakshabandan” at Canal Basin on Sunday 22nd August to show our support for Coventry City of Culture 2021. People of Coventry were so excited with this event because this was an opportunity for them to forget the trauma and difficulties people had faced during virtual imprisonment in their homes due to COVID19 lockdown. Many lost their jobs, so many lost members of their families and friends and children were frustrated because schools were closed.

The event was conceived jointly by three organisation –  Coventry Mercia Lions Club, BOPA (British Organisation for People of Asian Origin)  and Canal & River Trust, the main inspiration for us came from Councillor John McNicholas, Chair of Canal Basin Advisory Panel & who is now Lord Mayor of Coventry and giving us a fantastic support. We discovered Canal Basin in early January 2021 when we joined Canal Basin Advisory Panel we fell in love with this undiscvered hidden gem in the middle of Coventry City.

We were aiming to bring people in our local communities out and have a fun day with their families and friends, support their City of Culture 2021 and kick start their lives back to normalcy. British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Airforce, West Midlands Police, Fire Service, NHS and many faith and community organisations also joined us in showing their support for Coventry the city of Culture for 2021.
